Two people are dead and three others seriously injured after an SUV’s passing maneuver on a two lane highway ended with a semi jackknifing and crashing into it.

SUV’s Attempt To Pass A Vehicle Causes Semi To Jackknife

The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. yesterday on Highway 56 in Dakota County, Minnesota. Police say that 31 year old Jason M. Calderara was driving north in an SUV with his wife, 9 year old stepson, and 1 year old daughter.

According to reports, Calderara moved into the southbound lane to pass a vehicle, then cut back into the northbound lane at the last second. This caused a southbound minivan to slam on its brakes, which in turn caused the semi behind it to brake suddenly. The truck jackknifed and hit the SUV in the northbound lane.
