Nurse Falls At Least 100 Feet While Trying To Rescue Truckers From I-70 Crash

A nurse who was trying to rescue two truck drivers who crashed on I-70 in Maryland accidentally fell 100 to 200 feet into the river below.

Rear End Crash Causes Trucks to Jackknife And Overturn

According to Maryland State Police, a dump truck and an 18 wheeler collided on westbound I-70 in Frederick County just before 5 a.m. The semi reportedly rear ended the dump truck, causing it to overturn. The semi jackknifed during the crash.

Good Samaritan Falls Into River While Trying To Help Drivers

When a nurse arrived on the crash site soon after, she stopped her vehicle and ran across the interstate to try to help the truck drivers. Unfortunately, she mistook a jersey wall for a median and fell at least 100 feet into the Monocacy River below.

The nurse survived the fall and was able to call her husband for help.

Both truck drivers and the nurse were transported to nearby hospitals. Their condition is unknown.

I-70 was closed in both directions for some time. The eastbound lanes are completely open. Two westbound lanes are open, thought the right lane will be shut down most of the day, according to Maryland transportation officials.
