Police Seek Trucker Who Detached Trailer And Fled After Fatal Crash

California police are the on the lookout for a truck driver who reportedly fled the scene after colliding with a pickup truck, killing one man and injuring another.

Truck Driver Flees After Fatal Crash

The crash happened on Saturday around 3:10 a.m. in Vernon, California. Police say that the truck involved was in a minor crash around Soto and 37th Street. After leaving the scene of that crash, the truck driver ran a red light at the intersection of 37th Street and Santa Fe Avenue and then slammed into a pickup truck. The pickup became wedged underneath the truck and was dragged for several feet.

According to the Vernon Police Department, the truck driver stopped, “raised the trailer legs, then … disconnected the cables from the truck and drove off, westbound on 37th Street.

Police later found the cab of the truck about a mile from the scene of the crash.

The passenger in the pickup, 28 year old Armando Murillo, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup was extracted and transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Authorities Looking For Person Of Interest

Police say that they are looking for “person of interest” Guillermo Ortiz Jr., who they believe may have information about the crash. They have not said that Ortiz is the truck driver involved in the crash.
