Woman Reportedly Jumped From Moving Semi Just Before Fatal Five Vehicle Crash

Illinois police say that a domestic disturbance between a truck driver and a female passenger led to a five vehicle crash that killed a 67 year old motorist.

911 Callers First Report Speeding Truck, Domestic Disturbance

The incident began just before 9:30 p.m. on Monday on Route 50 east in O’Fallon. Police began receiving calls about a semi truck speeding on Route 50 as well as calls about some sort of domestic disturbance. One caller reported that a female passenger leapt from the cab of the semi truck while it was in motion.

Five Vehicle Crash Kills One, Injures Three

When officers responded to these calls, they were then diverted to a nearby five vehicle crash over a quarter mile stretch of Route 50. Police say that the semi truck caused a chain reaction crash with four passenger vehicles. One of the passenger vehicles overturned in the crash, killing the 67 year old female driver.

Three people involved in the crash including the truck driver were transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. Police later located the female passenger and transported her to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Trucker In Custody Pending Formal Charges

Police say that the truck driver was responsible for causing the crash and that an argument with the female passenger contributed to the crash.

The truck driver is in police custody pending formal charges.

Both the truck driver and the female passenger are from Augusta, Georgia.
