A preliminary hearing is approaching for a former New Chicago police officer who has been charged with threatening a truck driver with a gun because he thought the driver had cut him off.
Former Cop Tailgates Truck, Then Waves Gun At Trucker
The incident happened on October 28 just before 5 p.m. when a trucker heading west on I-94 passed a black Jeep driven by 32 year old Andrew Cuevas. According to reports, Cuevas began tailgating the truck, then pulled up along side the truck and waved a black handgun at the truck driver.
The trucker slowed down and let Cuevas get around him, then called 911.
Police soon located Cuevas and pulled over the Jeep. Cuevas told police that he was currently employed with the New Chicago police department, but further investigation revealed that he had resigned from that position and started work as a police officer at the Indiana University Northwest.
He denied waving the gun.
Police found two guns in the passenger seat of the Jeep. Both guns were loaded. They confiscated these along with Cuevas’s New Chicago police badge.
Hearing To Start Soon For Alleged Road Rage Former Police Officer
Cuevas pled not guilty to the felony charge. His preliminary hearing begins in April.
