Maryland State Police say that they placed more than one in four trucks out of service during a surprise round of inspections in Prince George’s County on Tuesday.

Assisted by officers from seven other agencies, troopers directed trucks from I-495/95 to a pop-up inspection station in the parking lot of FedEx Field.

Maryland Places over 25% Of Trucks Out Of Service

In total, 438 trucks were inspected. Of those, 113 trucks were placed out of service. Tire violations were the reason for 27 of the out of service orders, while various other violations placed the other 86 trucks out of service.

Notably, inspectors discovered that one truck was 24,000 pounds overweight. Inspectors issued 115 citations and 251 warnings.

Maryland State Police say that this is one of their largest commercial vehicle inspection efforts of the year and that more operations like this are planned.
