The FMCSA announced that they have ordered Massachusetts based trucking company J and J Transportation to cease all operations after a fatal crash led to an investigation that uncovered numerous regulation violations.
Fatal Crash Leads To Investigation Into Massachusetts Trucking Company
The investigation began following a single vehicle crash on December 4, 2015, that killed the truck driver. Investigators found that the truck driver had several hours of service violations and had falsified his record of duty status twice.
Company Unable To Provide FMCSA With Many Requested Safety Documentation
Then, in early February, the FMCSA conducted a compliance review with J and J Transportation. They reported that the company was unable to produce a multitude of important documents, including vehicle maintenance records, driver’s vehicle inspection reports, medical examiners certificates for its drivers, record of duty status documentation, or proof that their drivers had undergone testing for controlled substances. Investigators also discovered that several of the company’s drivers had suspended or invalid CDLs. The company was also unable to prove that they had corrected mechanical defects discovered during roadside inspections.
In a statement regarding the out of service order, the FMCSA stated: “J and J Transportation’s continued use of unsafe vehicles and its failure to adequately oversee its drivers to ensure compliance with federal safety regulations substantially increases the likelihood of serious harm to its drivers and to the motoring public.”
