Nevada Highway Patrol Warns Drivers Not To Pull Over For Flashing White Lights

Published:

The Nevada Highway Patrol has issued a warning after a suspected police impersonator tried to pull over another vehicle last week.

Last Wednesday, a caller reported a grey Ford F150 truck with flashing lights but no police markings attempting to pull over his vehicle on southbound I-580 in Reno. The caller reported the incident to police, stayed on the phone with them, and refused to pull over. The pickup eventually exited the highway.

Police interviewed a person of interest in the case, but the investigation is ongoing.

The Highway Patrol reminds drivers that they are not legally obligated to pull over for a vehicle using white flashing lights. They also instructed drivers who are suspicious about the legitimacy of a traffic stop to call 911.

NHP is asking anyone who sees a non-emergency vehicle using flashing white lights to pull over a vehicle or to attempt to direct traffic to call them at 688-2500.
