A resourceful trucker used fishing line to to outsmart security cameras and avoid tolls on the George Washington Bridge — only to be caught and arrested.
Fishing Line Rigged Plates Designed To Avoid Tolls
Police say that Yonkers, New York, based trucker Javier Marte drove through the toll lane on the GWB last night around 7:15 p.m. on the Fort Lee side. When the E-ZPass sign alerted that the truck driver had not paid the toll, Port Authority officers pulled the truck over and found that the front license plate was rigged with monofilament fishing line so that Marte could pull it up from the cab to conceal it from the cameras. The fishing line rig also reportedly allowed Marte to restore the license plate to its place after he had exited the bridge. The rear license plate was also bent to obscure the camera’s view.
Trucker Arrested And Charged For Tampering
Marte was arrested and charged with tampering with public records and theft of services.
