760 Trucks Placed Out Of Service During “Operation Airbrake”

Published:

Officials announced this week that 760 trucks were placed out of service during a surprise one day brake inspection blitz earlier in the year.

“Operation Airbrake” was an unannounced Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance sponsored inspection blitz that took place throughout the U.S. and Canada on May 4. Inspectors were specifically on the lookout for brake violations.

Of the 6,128 commercial vehicles inspected, 12.4% were taken out of service for brake violations. Another 13.9% were taken out of service for non-brake related violations.

During International Roadcheck 2015, about 43% of the trucks that were placed out of service had brake violations.

The announcement of the Operation Airbrake results are a good reminder to be ready for CVSA’s Brake Safety Week, which will take place from  September 11-17
