A new study from the American Transportation Research Institute found that that traffic congestion cost the trucking industry almost $50 billion in 2014.
Costs Of Traffic Are Steep For Trucking
According to the ATRI, traffic cost the trucking industry a whopping 728 million hours of productivity — which they say is equivalent to 264,500 truck drivers sitting idle for an entire year.
On average, traffic increased the operational costs of an individual truck by $4546 every year.
Florida And Texas Top States With Highest Costs Of Traffic Congestion
The study also found that the top two states with the highest costs of traffic congestion are Florida, with $4.6 billion and Texas, with $4.1 billion. California, New Jersey and New York round out the top five.
