The results of a survey released today show that smaller fleets are seriously behind on preparation to transition to electronic logging devices.
The survey was conducted by third party logistics provider Transplace. Over 400 motor carriers — both large (those with more than 250 trucks) and small (those with fewer than 250 trucks)– responded to the survey. Here are the results.
- 81% of large fleets have already fully implemented ELDs.
- Only 33% of small fleets have fully implemented ELDs.
- 38% of small fleets have no immediate plans in place to implement ELDs.
- Over half of the survey respondents said that they have had drivers quit because they did not want to operate with an ELD.
- Most respondents reported spending $700 per truck to install ELDs.
- 84% of large fleets say that they have seen fewer hours of service violations after installing ELDs.
If OOIDA fails in their attempt to fight the DOT ruling on the basis that it violates the Fourth Amendment, the ELD mandate will go into effect on December 16, 2017.
