Three former Texas trucking executives — including the former CEO — were sentenced to prison yesterday for their role in a multi-million dollar fraud scheme.
Sergio Lagos, formerly the CEO of USA Dry Van Logistics, pled guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and six charges of wire fraud. He was sentenced to eight years in prison.
Aurelio “Jim” Aleman, who used to serve as the company’s chief operations officer, was sentenced to four years for his role in the scheme. The former company controller Oscar Barbosa was sentenced to two years in prison.
The men were also ordered to repay $16 million to the GE Capital Corporation that they obtained by hiding the fact that the trucking company was in financial trouble in order to gain access to a line of credit. The men submitted false financial information and ordered employees to forge fake invoices to dupe GE into providing them with a multi-million dollar loan.
