Police are hunting for thieves who made off with a truck packed with $42,000 in Monster energy drinks in Corona, California, on Monday.
Truck Stolen From Lot Overnight
According to reports, the truck driver left his rig parked overnight with the trailer locked in a dirt lot in Corona on Monday and when he returned to it early Tuesday morning, the truck was missing.
With help from social media tips, police located the cab of the truck in Jurupa Valley Tuesday night. Several hours later, they found the trailer in Fontana, but all 28 pallets of energy drinks were missing.
Police have yet to uncover any evidence, but they believe the thieves knew exactly what they were doing when they targeted the truck.
Theft Caused Contract Cancellation, Cost Two Truckers Their Jobs
Dennis Cole, the owner of the trucking company targeted by the cargo theft, said that this is not a victimless crime. Monster was his company’s biggest client.
Monster has cancelled its contract with his trucking company and two drivers have lost their jobs as a result. Cole says he’ll lose $10,000 per month because of the cancelled contract. “It’s not fair to me, I didn’t do anything. Just a hard working guy trying to make a living in hard times,” he said.
Police say that the thieves will probably sell the energy drinks on Craigslist or at a swap meet to turn a quick profit.
