Trucker And Army Vet Wins $10 Million Jackpot

Published:

A North Carolina truck driver and Army veteran hit a $10 million jackpot off of a scratchers game and claimed his prize on Monday.

David Harris, 53, was hauling goods for Walmart when he stopped to grab a cup of coffee at the E.P. Mart at 130 N. Old Carriage Road in Rocky Mount at about 1 a.m. on April 29. On a whim, he bought 3 Ultimate Millions tickets at $30 each.

Trucker Has To Wait Til Morning To Share News About $10 Million Jackpot Winnings

Harris said he headed back to his truck to scratch the tickets and was so astounded when he saw that one of them was a winner that his cigarette fell out of his mouth. He said he rushed home, excited, to tell his son, but he was asleep. Harris also tried to call his sisters, but they were also asleep, so Harris had to wait until the morning to share the news.

Driver Plans To Buy Own Truck, Travel To Hawaii

After taking the lump sum payout, Harris claimed a prize of  $4,155,009. He plans to buy his own truck — but to let someone else drive it for him — and to vacation in Hawaii.
