Connecticut State Police have released dash cam video from a crash on I-91 in Windsor Locks that they say shows an unsafe lane change by a semi resulting in the trooper’s crash.
The incident took place in the southbound lanes of I-91 at 1:30 p.m. on August 31. According to police, “a simple lane change set off a chain of events which resulted in the trooper swerving to avoid a motorcyclist, colliding with the concrete center divider and then colliding with the tractor-trailer.”
Luckily, only minor injuries were reported.
The truck driver was cited for an unsafe lane change.
The Connecticut State Patrol says that they released the video as a reminder to expect the unexpected while driving, “We say over and over again to be aware of your surroundings and to remain alert, this is why. Whether you’re the one making a lane change or if you’re simply driving down the road, expect the unexpected. Know what’s around you. If a vehicle suddenly comes into your lane where can you go? Do you have an opening on your side to go to? Is there someone behind you? Are you in a construction pattern? You should constantly be re-evaluating and planning for unexpected.”
