Driver Killed After Semi Strikes Arkansas Overpass, Explodes

A truck driver lost his life this morning when his rig struck an overpass in Jonesboro, Arkansas, causing several explosions and causing heavy structural damage to the bridge.

Police Confirm At Least Three Explosions

The crash happened around 9 a.m. on I-555. According to the Jonesboro Police Department, the truck directly hit a concrete support as it was traveling under the Highway 1B Bridge. Police also confirmed that there were at least three separate explosions. Firefighters were able to get the resulting flames under control. Black smoke could be seen from miles away.


The truck driver was pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released.

It isn’t yet clear if any there were any other injuries.

Officials Worry About Structural Damage

The crash reportedly caused heavy damage to the overpass and transportation officials were concerned for a time that it could collapse.

Both the north and southbound lanes of I-555 have reopened.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
