Man Arrested For Shooting At Semi On Florida Turnpike

Published:

A Florida man was arrested yesterday after allegedly shooting at a semi because he was angry that he was unable to pass the truck.

The shooting occurred just before 7 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike near the Leesburg exit.

Troopers received a call from a trucker who said that a man in a Toyota Rav4 had opened fire on his truck. The truck driver told police that he heard three gunshots and saw the firearm in the hand of the driver of of the Rav4. He also reported that there was a female passenger in the Rav4 who was screaming.

The trucker told FHP that he believed that the man was angry because he was unable to pass the truck because there was another semi in the left lane. The trucker said that he had slowed down to allow the truck in the left lane to pass him, and it was then that the driver of the Rav4 pulled up alongside him and fired.

FHP located and extracted a bullet from the semi.

Using photos that the trucker was able to take of the Toyota along with images from a toll plaza camera, FHP was able to identify the driver of the Rav4, Charles Anthony Dunn, who later turned himself in.

Dunn told FHP that the truck had cut him off.

Dunn’s wife — the screaming female passenger that the trucker described — told police that her husband was angry, but that he was not trying to shoot the truck driver.

After Dunn and his wife were interviewed, police placed Dunn under arrest. He was released on a $20,000 bond.
