Second Apple Truck Crashes Into Columbia River This Week

For the second time this week, a semi hauling apples crashed off of a Washington state road into the Columbia River.

The latest incident took place on Thursday afternoon near East Wenatchee. Police say that 40 year old truck driver Kyle R. Stanton lost control on U.S. 2 and crashed through the guardrail into the Columbia River.

Stanton was not seriously hurt in the crash. Police say he will be cited for “driving with his wheels off the roadway.”

The truck became submerged in the river and thousands of apples floated downriver.

On Monday afternoon, a truck hauling apples went off of State Route 243 into the Columbia River. The truck driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

During that crash, the trailer broke free from the cab and floated down the Columbia River. Crews were able to secure it on a sandbar, but they still haven’t figured out how to get it out of the river.
