Over 18,000 Freightliner Cascadias recalled for brake defect that could increase crash risk

Published:

Daimler Trucks North America is recalling more than 18,000 Freightliner Cascadia trucks for a brake caliper defect that could make a crash more likely.

Daimler notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the recall on July 15, and the recall is expected to begin on August 13. An estimated 18,105 trucks could be affected by the recall.

The recall affects certain 2018-2019 Freightliner Cascadia models.

According to the recall notice, the “brake caliper mounting bolts on these vehicles may not been properly tightened, potentially resulting in the caliper detaching”, which in turn could reduce braking capacity and increase the risk of a crash.

Daimler will soon begin notifying truck owners that are affected by the recall and will inspect and tighten the brake caliper mounting bolts for free.

If you have questions about this recall, you can contact Daimler customer service at 1-800-547-0712, referencing recall number FL-775. You can also learn more by calling the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153). The NHTSA’s recalll number is 18V-411.
