Semi crash sparked fire that grew over an acre in size

Published:

Firefighters responded to a one-acre fire sparked by a wrecked semi truck in Utah on Sunday.

The incident happened on December 20th outside of St. George, Utah near the Arizona-Utah border.

According to St. George News, the semi truck was hauling an empty trailer to the Las Vegas area on Interstate 15 when it went off the right side of the highway and crashed into a metal guard rail. The force of the impact ruptured a fuel tank, which sparked a fire that quickly jumped to the nearby brush.

The fire soon spread and grew up to an acre in size, but firefighters were able to contain the blaze before it spread any further.

Luckily, the truck driver was not injured in the incident, but both the tractor and trailer were heavily damaged in the fire.

Traffic was backed up as crews worked to quench the fire and clean the wreckage, but it has since been cleared.
