Semi truck plummets off bridge, hospitalizing driver

A truck driver has been hospitalized following a wreck that sent his rig off the side of a bridge on Thursday. 

The accident happened on November 12th at around 12:25 p.m. in Conway, South Carolina. 

According to the Conway Police Department, the crash occurred at the Highway 501 and Waccamaw River Bridge intersection and sent the semi truck hurtling off of the bridge and into the ditch below. 

Photos of the incident show only a small amount of water beneath the bridge, but a flood advisory is in effect for the area until later this afternoon. 

The truck driver has been transported to the hospital, but the extent of their injuries is not clear. 

One northbound lane of Highway 501 has been closed to traffic as officials work to put up a temporary guardrail and clear the wreckage.

#ConwayPD is currently responding to a collision on Hwy 501 located near Wacammaw River and Lake Busbee. Northbound Hwy 501 is closed. Traffic delays are expected for the next few hours.
