Iowa trucking business a total loss following fire

Multiple firefighting agencies responded to a serious blaze on Wednesday night at a commercial trucking business in Ely, Iowa.

According to the Cedar Rapids Fire Department (CRFD), a “fire broke out Wednesday night at a trucking business in Ely at approximately 8:15 p.m.”

Approximately a dozen agencies responded to the location to try to knock down the fire, but “winds favored the fire and it moved swiftly through the entire length in under an hour, causing extensive damage to the building, its contents and several vehicles inside. Eventually, an excavator was used to knock down parts of the building as they were still using hose-lines to access parts of the structure that continued burning after the main blaze was controlled” CRFD said.

No injuries were reported.

KWWL reports that the building is considered a total loss.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
