Recently the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) made recommendations to lawmakers about the dangers of distracted driving. They want to make it easier for States to authorize and enforce tougher restrictions on texting, cell phone use and other things that contribute to driver distraction. Why? After conducting a series of studies, the NTSB found out that more than 1 in 4 accidents are caused by distracted driving.
While researching this topic and how it affects truck drivers and the transportation industry, we ran across this striking infographic. Some of the facts it presented were very interesting to us.
- Nearly 1 in 5 accidents caused by distracted drivers end up being fatal.
- Distracted driving accidents are the leading cause of deaths for American children age 15 to 20.
- In accidents involving truck drivers, nearly 30% of them resulted by distractions from cell phones.
