TCA Names 2011 “Highway Angel”

Published:

Marcus Beams, a professional semi-tractor trailer driver for Epes Transport System, Inc., of Greensboro, North Carolina has been named TCA’s 2011 Highway Angel for saving 3 victims from the wreckage of a high-speed collision. Beams was honored at a special ceremony during the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on December 17th by TCA in Boise, ID.

Beams witnessed a vehicle strike another one, sending it down into the adjacent wooded area flipped onto its roof. When he located the overturned vehicle, he found a woman crying out to save her two children as the car’s engine continued to burn fuel. He was able to free the children and the driver without injuring himself and kept them safe until authorities arrived on the scene.

Britt Colley, COO at Epes Transport congratulated Beams and said, “Marcus does a great job every day and fortunately was able to help out a motorist and her children in a great time of need. We are very fortunate to have a great team of professional drivers at Epes Transport. Our driver force is definitely our # 1 asset.”

TCA garnered a high level of recognition among truck drivers this year by promoting their trucker recognition campaign with a popular country music star, Lindsay Lawler. Lawler wrote a song and released a video dedicated to the Highway Angel campaign that’s entertained thousands of music fans all over the country.
