According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, trucking companies added 10,200 new jobs in February 2012. Â February represents the largest 1 month gain since February 2011. Â More than 20,000 new trucking jobs have been added in the last three months.
Payroll is up by 47,300 or 3.7% from February 2011. Â Employment is up 97,300 jobs but remains below the 121,900 jobs at the peak in January 2007.
The BLS numbers for trucking reflect all payroll employment in for-hire trucking. They do not include truck driver for a private fleet or other trucking-related jobs. The numbers also do not reflect the total amount of hiring, they only reflect the number of employees paid during a specified payroll period during the month.
