With all the miles spent on the road, it’s easy to forget to pay a bill. Debt collectors have gone to some crazy lengths to collect money– some even use illegal practices.
According to ABC News, “The Federal Trade Commission received a record number of complaints about debt collectors last year — nearly 181,000. second only to complaints about identity theft.”
Laws governing debt and debt collection vary from state to state. Many states have a statute of limitations on collections, but by starting to pay back debt or simply saying the wrong thing, can reset the clock on your old debt.
