City Slapping Drivers With Hefty Fines For Illegal Parking

Published:

City Slapping Drivers With Hefty Fines For Illegal Parking A truck driver was fined $515 for illegally parking his truck overnight on a Bronx street. Recently, politicians in the city have launched a campaign to crack-down on illegal, overnight truck parking.

With few places to park between New Jersey and Connecticut, truck drivers picking-up or delivering to the area are left with a limited number of options; park illegally or violate HOS laws.

For many years the fine for illegal truck parking was so low it didn’t deter drivers. Now, police are hoping that the hefty fines will send drivers the message to find somewhere else to park.

“It’s not going to solve the problem — we have to do more — but it’s designed to send a message that the community is vigilant,”  Councilman James Vacca, told the New York Daily News.

“Problem areas that were targeted included the Bruckner Blvd. service road between Middletown Road and Wilkinson Ave., the Throgs Neck Expressway near the Throgs Neck Bridge, and the I-95 service road near Co-op City,” the paper reported.
