Published:

Carrie Underwood Blown Away MusicCarrie Underwood is a bit of an anomaly within the traditional Nashville music scene. After college, she had given up her dream of singing professionally and had begun searching for a regular 9-5 job, but was unable to resist the popularity and drama of American Idol, and chose to compete in 2004. Early on, American Idol’s famous British curmudgeon Simon Cowell pegged her to be a sure winner, only after her first round of competition. His prediction proved true, and the rest, as they say, is Herstory.

Underwood has been living in the spotlight since her winning performance in 2004, and seems to thrive on the attention. She loves the celebrity life and makes sure to put her mark on anything she does, be it sports, charity, politics or music. With eleven number one hits on Billboard Hot Country Songs, Underwood is listed in the 2012 Guinness Book of World Records as the Female Country Artist with Most number one Hits on such chart from 1991 to present, tied with Reba McEntire. Her newest album “Blown Away” is no different. It was a smash hit debut and continues to impress.

With only 3 days of airplay, “Good Girl” debuted at number thirty on Billboard Hot Country Songs and debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number twenty-four. It has entered the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100, giving Underwood her twelfth top 20 on the chart. It also debuted at number thirty-three on the Canadian Hot 100 chart for the week of March 10, 2012.

Blown Away debuted at number one in the United States on the Billboard 200 chart with first-week sales of 267,000 copies. It is Carrie Underwood’s third number-one album on the chart, following Carnival Ride (2007) and Play On (2009).

With Blown Away hitting number one, Carrie Underwood became the third female to chart at number one on the Billboard 200 with three country albums, tying her with Linda Ronstadt and Faith Hill.

Blown Away displays considerable artistic and creative growth in both Underwood’s songwriting and selection of material. Is more thematic and unified, resulting in Underwood’s strongest effort to date, which easily leaves her previous releases twisting in the wind. Melissa Maerz of Entertainment Weekly gave the album a B+, and referred to Blown Away as Underwood’s “most stadium-rock-friendly album yet.
