As the holiday season approaches, you always seem to notice how your bottom line just doesn’t quite meet up with your shopping expectations. Fuel has been going up, which means that goods in stores will be a bit more expensive during the winter months. Bad news for truck drivers on both ends.
However, there are some pretty sharp mobile apps out there that can help you cut some corners while spreading some holiday cheer. Here are a few of our free and low-cost favorites.
We’ll also try and link up to both Android and iOS apps for each.
wootle HD – Wootle is simple, and features great deals every day on household wares, electronics, tools, knives, wines, shirts and more.
It updates about twice a day, with items for sale in nearly every Wootegory: kids.woot, shirt.woot, wine.woot, home.woot and sellout.woot – we’ve heard that tech.woot will be on the way soon.
The discounts available at Woot can approach the amazing. The items aren’t display models or returns. They are either new or factory refurbished, most come from over stocks.
Amazon Mobile – WalMart may be the worlds biggest brick and mortar retailer, but in the online world, Amazon is the place to go for nearly everything.
Their mobile shopping app features hundreds of deals every day in each category for books, DVDs, hardware, auto parts, clothing, tools and even cell phones.
The Amazon mobile app allows you to access Gold Box Deals, and make purchases using a simple, yet elegant, interface. To make on-the-go shopping and price comparison even easier, the Amazon Mobile App includes helpful shopping features that allow users to scan a barcode, snap a photo, or type a search, to quickly compare prices and check availability.
Finding Home & Hardware – Need hardware supplies while on the road? Maybe you just want to get the wife something fun before you head home. Easy! This simple to use app makes it a snap to find the top chain locations further down your route.
This version includes Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, Ace Hardware, True Value Hardware Stores, Orchard Supply Hardware, Tractor Supply Company, Grainger and IKEA locations.
Find the nearest ones to you right now on the map view or a simple text list based on GPS. Tap the compass button to re-center around you at anytime. You don’t need a zipcode. Works in the US and Canada. This one costs .99 cents, however.
Overstock – You like discounts of up to 70% right? We thought so. Overstock is one of the most popular discount shopping sites on the internet and it’s easy to see why. Lots of great brand names, real cheap, delivered fast. Most of the time the shipping rates are flat, done per order instead of per pound. How that works out we’ll never know, but all we really need to know is that it works.
If the item is on the Overstock website, it’s on the free mobile app. The shopping app also gives you access to the super cheap Lott-O deals every day. You’ll want to make sure you don’t miss those.
