Hey truckers, welcome to another Free Movie Night where we scour the web to find the greatest (and the not-so greatest) films for your off-hour entertainment. This week we have a comedy that has romance and raunch in equal parts.
This movie came from an idea by star John C. Reilly and his frequent collaborator, director Judd Apatow. While Apatow didn’t direct this, he wrote the script from the original idea so it’s similar in spirit to many of his other hit comedies like Superbad, Anchorman and Knocked Up.
Walk Hard is a parody on the modern musical biopic. The “Sudden Superstardom Followed By a Nightmare Spiral of Drugs and Booze, Only to Triumph Again” type of story we’ve all seen. It was in Johnny Cash’s biopic “Walk the Line” and in Jamie Fox’s box office smash “Ray” about the life and work of Ray Charles. It seems to be the same story every time, so Reilly and Apatow thought it was ripe for a straight up parody.
Walk Hard stars John C. Reilly (Boogie Nights), Jenna Fischer (The Office) and Kristin Wiig (Bridesmaids) and is rated R for raunchy humor, drug use, and probably a lot of man butt.
