Truck Drivers Make Handicapped Boy Honorary Trucker

At CDL Life, we make it our mission to feature stories about how truck drivers make America and their communities a better place. This is a perfect example to illustrate our ideals. Last week, truck drivers took a break from their busy schedules to give a Missouri boy the ride of a lifetime when they made him an honorary Wal-Mart truck driver.

Christian Gills, 9, a third-grader at Central Elementary, was selected to be honored through Wal-Mart Heart, a volunteer program started by company truck drivers. Christian, who has spina bifida, often uses a wheelchair to get around. Spina bifida is a developmental congenital disorder caused by the incomplete closing of the embryonic neural tube.

After Christian was picked up Saturday from outside his school, he was riding high in a Wal-Mart tractor-trailer in a convoy lead by fire fighters and police officers through the center of town.

Find out more about Christian’s great day behind the wheel of a semi truck at e-Missourian.
