Surepower Technologies installed 24 electrified parking spots at a Williams, Iowa, Flying J Travel Plaza, located just off of  I -35 at Exit 144, between Des Monies and the Minnesota state line.
The units feature 120, 208 and 240 VAC and cost $1.00 per hour. Â Idling a truck consumes as much as a gallon of fuel per hour. Â In addition, idling causes more wear and tear on your truck’s engine than plugging-in.
Many states are imposing bans on idling, and Surepower and Flying J are working to meet the demands. Â There are currently 50 Flying J locations equipped with Surepower Technology.
“We think of ourselves as good corporate citizens, and offering an idle-reduction service helps us fulfill that mission for drivers, for fleet operators and communities near our travel centers,” says Dan Alsaker, owner of Broadway Group, which operates the Williams, Iowa, truck stop. “The higher the price of diesel fuel gets, the more attractive it is to plug in.”
