For all of today’s news about companies moving jobs overseas, this one seems like a small victory for the little guy. Mack and Volvo as truck companies couldn’t be more different, however, recently the companies found common ground through their wish to put Americans back to work in the manufacturing sector. The Mack mDrive and Volvo I-Shift transmissions are now being assembled in Hagerstown, Md.
U.S. production of the transmissions was made possible through an $8 million investment in the Hagerstown, Md., manufacturing plant to create a new assembly line, install the necessary equipment and train personnel. The investment also created 50 new jobs at the facility.
More than a third of the highway trucks currently rolling off the assembly line at Mack’s Macungie, Pa., truck plant feature the automated manual transmission, which is available on Mack Pinnacle model highway tractors.
