Once you install the app on your phone, you will be prompted to enter your current height and weight. You then enter your desired weight and your level of activity. My Fitness Pal calculates how many calories you are allowed to consume to help you reach your desired target weight.
Each meal, you enter what you’ve eaten into your diary. The app allows you to modify your portion sizes, as well. If you only eat half of a donut, you change the serving size to 1/2.
My Fitness Pal has a database of over 1,100,000 foods and thousands of restaurants and has a bar code scanner for food labels. It allows you to chart what you’ve eaten and tells you how many more calories you are allowed for the day.
With the app, friends and family can see your progress and cheer you on, as well.
