New Truck Registrations Soar In 2011

Published:

Class 8 vehicles started the 2011 calendar year flat compared to 2010 but showed solid and continued growth the rest of the year. The last five months of the 2011 calendar year were at or above 14,000 units for the first time since June 2007.

Combined new and used registrations of Class 3-8 trucks totaled 1.25 million units, a 19.7% increase from 2010. New commercial vehicle registrations accounted for 36.9% of total commercial vehicles registered during the 2011 calendar year, up from 35.8% reported for 2010.

The demand for used commercial vehicles during 2011 represents a record level of transactions, surpassing the previous record set in 2010, reports Polk.
