New Website Geared Toward Trucker Health

Published:

New Website For Healthy TruckingDrivers wanting to take control of their health now have a new resource.  The Healthy Trucker is a new site is a partnership between EGears and Driver Solutions.

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Happy truckers are healthy truckers, but getting big rig drivers to brake regularly for exercise, healthy meals and much-needed down time is often easier said than done. That’s why the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) is shifting gears to raise awareness about truck driver health. This year, TCA is changing its “National Truck Driver Appreciation Week” (Sept. 16-22) to “National Truck Driver Appreciation and Wellness Week,” adding “Wellness” into their campaign’s critical mission. Supporting that goal, eGears (http://www.e-gears.com), a leading national provider and authority for online and video-based education for truck drivers, is also launching a timely website and resource: TheHealthyTrucker.net. The website is a partnership project with Driver Solutions (http://www.greatcdltraining.com), a company that specializes in training inexperienced truck drivers and then placing them with well-known trucking companies.

“The whole idea behind TheHealthyTrucker.net is to provide support that improves their ‘mind, body and wallet,'” says Mike Curts, eGears president. “When these three factors are in balance, truckers are happier, healthier and safer on the road. Since safety is our primary objective, this website’s a natural complement to our mission. The site is chock full of support and advice, everything from tips on how to eat better, exercise better and budget better and simply be better.”

To kickoff TheHealthyTrucker.net website and celebrate “National Truck Driver Appreciation and Wellness Week,” Driver Solutions is sponsoring a cookout on Friday, Sept. 21 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Driver Solutions headquarters (3603 E. Raymond St., Indianapolis, IN 46203).  The cookout will be free for all truck-driver training students, CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) holders and media. As part of the “health & wellness” initiative, healthy food choices will be offered to truck drivers and future truck drivers. Instead of the traditional cookout food of burgers and brats, more nutritious food choices such as turkey burgers and grilled chicken will be available. Educational materials will be provided by TheHealthyTrucker.net and local “fitness guru” Eric Banter of Shamrock Wellness (http://www.shamrockwellness.com). Banter also plans to talk with professional truck drivers about healthy eating habits and share exercise ideas for when they’re out on the road.

“When you think about what we’re doing with the new website and for the truck driving industry, this health and wellness initiative is really radical — yet so important,” Curts says. “Traditionally, it’s been tough in the truck-driving environment and culture for truckers to make good choices related to the bodies, minds and budgets. Life on the road can be tiring, lonely and potentially expensive if you don’t watch your spending, and this elevates challenges associated with diet, exercise and mental health. TheHealthyTrucker.net is an effort to educate our truckers on just how important all this is to the work-life balance, giving them tools and resources to improve their overall being and even their lives. Without a doubt, TheHealthyTrucker.net is poised to be a game changer in how the industry addresses and advocates for truckers’ well-being, and it’s an exciting direction for eGears and our partners.”
