Torche have gone from riff factory start up, to rising hard rock stars, to metal scene shot-callers. They did it within just a few years too, mostly thanks to the band’s close partnership with artist and heavy music taste-maker Aaron Turner.
Aaron founded Hydra Head Records first as a distributor of underground hard rock and metal acts, but around 1999, the entity became much larger and profitable and soon became one of the most popular labels in the rock world.
Torche made a breakthrough album for Hydra Head in 2008 called “Meanderthal.” It was the perfect showcase for the band’s ability to deliver massive guitar riffs, complex drum fills and even a bit of humor peeking through the barrage of noise. Torche soon became a very popular touring act, due to founding member Steve Brooks’ ability to spot rising talent to pair with on tour.
This year, Torche is very secure in their place as one of metal’s buzz bands who get butts in the door and horns thrown in the air. Their latest album will be release on April 24th, but we have a preview of their first single, titled “Kicking.”
And yes, that’s how we would describe it. Alright truckers – get your metal on while driving some steel. ‘Til next time!
