Infographic: The Hazards of Holiday Roads

Published:

Infographic Hazardous Holiday TravelTruck drivers know better than most anyone how hazardous a road can become. That goes double for the holiday season, when the roads get slicker, the 4 wheelers are driving more distracted than ever, and plenty of families are hauling precarious loads of presents blocking lines of sight.

Our friends at Road Traffic Signs created this cute infographic that has a serious message underneath its candy-coated exterior: Stay aware, don’t drive drowsy, and stay alive.

Truck drivers cause a very low percentage of crashes on the nation’s highways, yet they nearly always get some part of the blame. Dangers on the winter roads just make the situation that much more intimidating for many truck drivers. Many carriers only allow drivers a single wreck before they let them go, sometimes even recommending that their CDLs be revoked.

Why did the people at Road Traffic Signs create this infographic?

• 17,000 people die per year in the U.S. in motor vehicle accidents because they weren’t wearing a seat belt.

• In December 2009 alone there were 2,387 fatal crashes.

• Pedestrian deaths account for 12 percent of all traffic fatalities.
