VDOT Considering I-64 Tolls

Published:

Tolls To Go Along Interstate 64?VDOT wants to widen Interstate 64 but says it needs to find ways to fund the project.  One of the things being considered is adding tolls along Interstate 64 from Interstate 95 in Richmond to Interstate 644 in Hampton.

“Talks of tolling Interstate 64 are in the very early stages, and VDOT says they’re just taking the public’s suggestions on adding tolls between Richmond and Hampton Roads,” WRIC reported.

Dale Bennett Secretary of the Virginia Trucking Association told WRIC that most likely, truck drivers would be the most negatively impacted should VDOT vote to add more tolls.

“They’re out there to do a job, and to fill a need that we as consumers have,” Bennett told WRIC. “We just think tolling is the absolute wrong way to take money from our highway users, to pay for our roads.”

VDOT is asking for the public’s input on the tolls.  They’re holding a series of public hearings.
