VIDEO: Ghost Throws First Pitch At Ballgame

Published:

Movie studios sometimes need to go to desperate lengths to get people’s attention. We’re pretty sure it worked since, well…it got our attention.

The ghost is Sadako, the young woman who was thrown down a well by her mother, and came back as a spirit to exact revenge on all who dared tempting fate. This PR stunt is part of the promotion of the newest film in the series, Ring 3D.

The original Japanese movie Ringu, was a big hit, so naturally Hollywood wanted some of the action. The Americanized version, simply called The Ring, was a decently creepy tribute that did well at the box office in 2002. It was the film that put director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) and actress Naomi Watts (King Kong) on the map.

For the Ring 3D, Paramount bought the story rights and hired David Loucka to write. Loucka had a minor hit last year when he wrote the thriller Dream House that starred Daniel Craig (he’s the new James Bond, from Casino Royale).

The plot goes something like this: a high school teacher hears a rumor from her students that there is actual footage on the Internet of someone’s suicide. The footage is said to drive anyone who sees it to also commit suicide. She does not believe the rumor at first, but when one of her female students dies after viewing the footage, she and her boyfriend are fatefully drawn into the horror that has been created by the man who appears in the suicide footage. He released the video to bring chaos into the world.

Hmmm…sounds serious. So PR goofs like this seem strange. Yet, it IS pretty funny. Seriously, who would you want throwing out the first pitch of the game – Sadako the ghost or the President? We’ll go with the girl.

Have a look!
