13 Injured in Train, Truck Collision

Thirteen people suffered minor injuries when a Metrolink train slammed into a truck on Saturday afternoon in Pacoima, California.

“This truck…somehow got stuck at a light at the intersection of San Fernando and Branford,” said LAPD Sgt. Kurt Smith. “(The) train came through, and trains don’t stop immediately and as you see, the truck got taken out.”

According to KTLA, the train was headed south from Lancaster  to Los Angeles.  As the train was nearing the Branford Street and San Fernando Road crossing, a dump truck was stuck on the tracks. The train hit the truck, causing it to spun around and flip on its side.  The train continued a quarter of a mile down the tracks before it came to a stop.

A spokesperson for Metrolink says the railroad gates were working at the time of the crash.

The truck driver was examined at the scene by paramedics and is expected to be okay.

Thirteen passengers on the train were injured, and 9 were transported to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.
