2 Drivers Charged With Hate Crime After Rest Area Row

Hate Crime According to the Brampton Guardian, two truck drivers are facing hate crime charges after an altercation at an Ontario rest area.

On June 18, 2013, the three drivers were driving on Hwy. 401 near Tilbury, Ontario when an apparent road rage incident took place.

One of the drivers, a 29-year-old man, pulled into the ONroute service area and the other two men followed.

The three men then got into a verbal fight.  The 29-year-old driver was punched and racial slurs were shouted at him.  The driver was transported to the hospital via ambulance.

Following the assault,  Elias Elachkar, 39, and David Dykxhoorn, 47, were arrested and charged with public indictment of hatred.

Elachkar was additionally charged with assault.  Hate crimes typically carry stiff penalties.
