3.9 Tons Of Marijuana, Worth $3.4 M Seized From Tanker

According to a press release issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), on Tuesday DPS seized nearly 8,00 pounds of marijuana– valued at more than $3.4 million. 

On Tuesday, a Texas CVE trooper pulled over a 1999 tanker driven by 45-year-old Paul Anthony Simmons for an inspection in San Patricio County.

During the inspection, the trooper found more than 7,816 pounds of marijuana filling the tank.

“This significant drug seizure illustrates the dedication of our DPS troopers and agents who are making a difference in our communities every day,” said DPS Regional Commander Jose Rodriguez. “DPS along with our local and federal law enforcement partners are constantly working to enforce our laws, and to ensure the safety and security of Texans.”

The driver was arrested for possession of marijuana, and DPS Criminal Investigation agents are continuing to investigate this incident.

Simmons was arrested and a $1,000,000 bail was posted.

Police are not releasing any more information about the crime, as the investigation is still ongoing.
