6 Healthy Seeds You Should Be Eating

Sunflower Seeds are incredibly high in both Vitamin E and magnesium. This is known to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, asthma, migraines, colon cancer, and arthritis.

Sesame Seeds are a great source of copper which prevents rheumatoid arthritis, as well as zinc which is great for bone health. These compact little seeds pack a flavorful punch, but their size prevents them from overpowering any dishes – they’re most commonly found in Asian food.

Poppy Seeds (which controversially contain a small amount of opium alkaloids) – contrary to popular are not something that will pop up on a drug screening. Dried poppy seeds do not have the effects of similar drugs (like morphine and codeine) – but they’re known to have an effect which provides mild pain and stress relief. They also contain fatty acids which are known to prevent cancer.

Linseed, which comes from the flax plant is known as the omega 3 king. They are known to minimize the risk of cardiovascular disease, and can be found in oils (for salad dressings). Find linseed in health food stores near you!

Pumpkin Seeds are total health powerhouses. These seeds contain iron, magnesium, Vitamin E, and dietary fiber. Check out our recipe for roasted pumpkin seeds!

Quinoa comes from a plant called “goosefoot,” and can be consumed just like a grain. It contains magnesium, calcium, protein, fiber, and is low in fat. – It’s also gluten free! Enjoy it for breakfast in a porridge, in salad, or in a pilaf!
