Car Purposefully Hits Tanker, Causes Explosion

Published:

A Friday night collision between a car and a tanker set off a series of small explosions.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Thomaston Road and Interstate 475 in Bibb County, Georgia, when a 2006 Volvo station wagon driven by 26-year-old Nichalos Deonte Owens rammed his car into a fully loaded tanker driven by Byron Cummings.

According to KTAL, police are investigating the incident.  Police say the suicidal driver told them that he purposefully drove his car into the tanker.

“Following the accident, Owens told deputies that following a dispute with his wife, he left and when he saw the tanker truck pulling onto Thomaston Road, he made the decision to attempt to end his life. Owens accelerated his vehicle, jumped the curb and struck the tanker portion of the tanker truck,” Fox 24 reported.

Fox 24 reported that following the collision, Owens exited his car and was attempting to jump off the overpass when police arrived and pulled him down.

Owens’ sustained burns to his legs and was transported to the hospital.

The truck driver was not injured.

According to WMAZ, Owens is expected to face criminal charges.
