Last week we learned that YRC is planning to make massive layoffs in the upcoming months. Â Today we’ve learned that YRC plans to close its Carlstadt, New Jersey hub and layoff 69 employees. Â The plan also calls for 114 layoffs at the Elizabeth, New Jersey location.
YRC sent a WARN letter to the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development about the upcoming layoffs. Â According to the WARN Act, companies are required to provide a 60-days notice of layoffs to state and local governments.
In the plan, YRC states that most of the laid-off employees will have the option to transfer to another terminal.
“This is all about improving customer service and taking another step to regain a lead position in the North American” market for “LTL” shipments, or those in which a single customer can’t fill an entire trailer, said Jeff Rogers, president of YRC Freight, in announcing its national plan. “This change also moves us closer to sustained profitability.”
