In Southern California – the chicken has been crossing the road.

But this time, to catch distracted drivers. One of the Lake Elsinore State Police donned a chicken costume last Thursday in an effort to crack down on drivers who aren’t properly yielding to pedestrians on crosswalks.

The costumed officer crossed the road (on the crosswalks) in five different locations while other officers looked on. Two of those locations being near elementary schools – a problematic area for unsafe drivers in the city.

31 drivers were cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, and one driver was cited for speeding.

According to the Lake Elsinore-Wildomar Patch, even though the decoy was wearing the fuzzy bright yellow costume, most of the drivers claimed that they did not see him crossing the road.
