Choking Driver Blacks Out, Causes Deadly Accident

Published:

According to San Francisco’s CBS Local, a truck driver who choked on a sandwich lost consciousness and crashed.

The accident occurred Thursday morning on Interstate 80 near Old Davis Road at the Solano-Yolo county line.

CHP Officer Chris Parker told CBS Local that when the driver blacked out, his truck drifted to the right then drifted back to the left, in the eastbound lanes.  The truck struck a Toyota Corolla then a Volkswagen station wagon. Both drivers suffered minor to moderate injuries.

After hitting the vehicles, the driver regained consciousness as the truck drove through the guardrail and crossed the median.  The truck then crossed into the westbound lanes and collided with a BMW, causing both the BMW and the truck to burst into flames.

The driver of the BMW and a passenger were trapped in the fiery car.  Both occupants died.

The truck driver was able to get out of his truck. He was taken to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries.  The truck driver’s name has not been released.
