Colorado Cracking Down On Drivers Illegally Using Pass

Independence Pass

According to the Aspen Daily News, Colorado State Patrol troopers are cracking down on drivers who illegally use the Independence Pass in Colorado.

If caught using the pass, drivers will face a mandatory court appearance and hefty fines.

CSP Captain Richard Duran told the Aspen Daily News that trucks longer than 35′ have been prohibited from using the pass for many years, because the roads are narrow and treacherous. Despite this, Duran said many drivers still attempt to use the pass.

In the past, drivers have only been issued a ticket for failing to obey traffic signals.  Now, drivers will face a $113.50 fine, plus court expenses.  In addition, drivers may receive up to 4 points against their CDLs.
